The May of Facebook

By definition, social networking service in an online service that focuses on building social relations among people with common interests.
However, social media can be a crucial and necessary tool for promoting campaigns, because of the massive response that is reflected.

Take for instance the indignant movement, which has risen up against corporate greed and cuts, all over the world. From Madrid to Athens, through New York and on to Sydney, peaceful and non political protesters want to get their message across.
Check out where events are planned here.
100.000 people gathered at the centre of Athens on Sunday, 29/5/2011

I witnessed demonstrations being coordinated only by social networking in most major Greek cities and the participation was breathtaking. The first one that was held in Greece on May 25th, was nicknamed as the 'May of Facebook'. It was the largest event to be organised over the internet in Greece.

I cannot help but wonder about the power of social networking. Its massive interaction has been proved, but can this power be abused? Who draws the ethical line in this form of media?

I really see your point. The Arab Spring is a very good example, this blog manages to give you a basic background: http://socialcapital.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/twitter-facebook-and-youtubes-role-in-tunisia-uprising/.
I really believe that social media nowadays has a power to reach more people. It would be interesting to see if there is some sort of influence involved, but then again Klout does look at the influence you have on the people that follow you on Twitter or Facebook.
